A judge has remarked with great sadness that the potential of 22-month-old Eve Leatherland will never be fulfilled after her mother and her partner were sentenced for their roles in her death. This morning (Friday March 29) at  Truro Crown Court  Thomas Curd, 31, from Watford and Abigail Leatherland, 26, formerly of  Liskeard , were sent to prison a day after they were convicted by a jury. Curd was found to have murdered Eve and her mother Leatherland convicted of causing or allowing a child to die. Eve died in October 2017 after she was poisoned with codeine by Curd. Prior to her death she was subjected to at least three ferocious beatings by Curd in which he fractured her ribs and skull as well as lacerating her liver. Some of the injuries were then repeated, resulting in identical fractures that halted the healing process. During the trial Leatherland claimed that she was unaware that Curd was hurting her child and put her apparently condition down to a v...

A woman who offered sex to a fictitious 13-year-old boy for £10 has avoided a prison sentence. Leanne Curnoe, 22, of Alma Place in  Redruth , was caught when one of her ‘friends’ made a fake Facebook profile and began to message her from it. Curnoe appeared at  Truro Crown Court  for sentencing on Friday (February 1) after  previously pleading guilty  to a charge of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming in September 2017. Prosecuting barrister Philip Lee said: “The witness in this case knew the defendant and there were rumours she’d been having sex with boys for money. When asked about this she effectively admitted it. “The witness set up a fake  Facebook  account in the name Richard Jones and messaged Miss Curnoe asking for sex with the words ‘what do I get for £100’ to which the defendant replied ‘everything’. “The messages were clear and it was apparent sex was being offered. The witness observed the defendant waiting outsi...

An autistic teenager has been savagely attacked for the second time in just over a month – this time with a knuckleduster. In December Cornwall Live reported how autistic teenager Jacob Comertoglu was set upon on December 17 as he walked into  Bodmin  to look at the town’s  Christmas  lights. Jacob, 19, who also has Asperger’s Syndrome, had the misfortune of stumbling upon a man arguing with his girlfriend, the man then taking offence to his presence launching  a brutal and sustained assault on Jacob whereby he hit and headbutted him. A nurse who treated Jacob was horrified that there were no defensive injuries when she examined him. The chilling ordeal was filmed by a woman  who lives overlooking the lane who shot the clip as part of her campaign to have CCTV cameras installed to combat anti-social behaviour. She had no idea of the nature of the altercation she witnessed. Despite  a ‘well-known’ local suspect being identified  , nobody...
